FedEx Powers Sri Lanka’s Electric Future

July, 13, 2026

Every shipment tells a story. Whether it is a critical business document, a life-saving medical package, or a product connecting businesses and consumers across borders, logistics plays a vital role in keeping the world moving. Yet as global trade continues to grow, so does the responsibility to protect the environment.

Recognizing this challenge, FedEx, one of the world's largest express transportation companies, has placed sustainability at the heart of its business strategy. Operating in more than 220 countries and territories, FedEx has committed to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040, with fleet electrification forming a key pillar of its global sustainability agenda.

In Sri Lanka, this vision is being brought to life by Advantis Express, the official licensee of FedEx and a member of the Hayleys Group. Marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey, Advantis Express has introduced electric vehicles (EVs) into its pickup and delivery fleet, reinforcing its commitment to reducing emissions while maintaining world-class service standards.

As the company responsible for delivering FedEx services in Sri Lanka, Advantis Express plays a critical role in translating global sustainability ambitions into local action. The introduction of EVs represents more than a fleet upgrade; it is a strategic investment in building a cleaner, more efficient logistics network while supporting the country's broader environmental goals.

This transition has been made possible through the strength of the Hayleys ecosystem. As Sri Lanka's largest and most diversified conglomerate, Hayleys PLC has long championed responsible business practices and sustainable growth. In 2022, the Group launched Hayleys Lifecode, its environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework, aligning business operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and embedding sustainability across its diverse sectors.

The EV initiative reflects these principles in action. By combining FedEx's global sustainability commitments with the Hayleys Lifecode framework, Advantis Express is creating a logistics model that balances operational excellence with environmental responsibility.

A key enabler of this transformation is Hayleys Mobility, the mobility arm of the Hayleys Group. Through its expertise in electric mobility solutions, technical support and charging infrastructure, Hayleys Mobility has played an instrumental role in facilitating the successful deployment of the EV fleet. Together, FedEx, Advantis Express, Hayleys PLC and Hayleys Mobility have created a partnership that demonstrates how global vision and local expertise can work together to drive meaningful change.

"Decarbonize what's possible, co-create with purpose, and neutralize what's left," said Chamila Bandara, Group Management Committee Member of Advantis Group.

The logistics sector is a significant contributor to global carbon emissions, making fleet electrification one of the most impactful opportunities for change. By integrating EVs into its operations, Advantis Express is reducing its carbon footprint while contributing to cleaner air, lower noise pollution and more sustainable urban environments. The initiative also aligns with FedEx's global efforts to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across its network, bringing Sri Lanka into a growing movement towards sustainable transportation.

For Advantis Express, however, this is only the beginning. The company sees opportunities to further expand its EV fleet, strengthen charging infrastructure and leverage technology to enhance operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

"Scaling sustainable solutions for the future—the future is electric," said Asanka Weerasinghe, Chief Operating Officer of Advantis Express.

The transition to sustainable logistics requires long-term commitment, collaboration and innovation. Through the combined efforts of FedEx, Advantis Express, Hayleys PLC and Hayleys Mobility, Sri Lanka is taking an important step towards a lower-carbon future.

Every electric vehicle deployed on the road represents more than a delivery solution. It is a symbol of progress, demonstrating how businesses can grow responsibly while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future for generations to come.
