Free ballet workshop for advanced students with Seneka Abeyratne

Freelance dance teacher / choreographer Seneka Abeyratne will conduct a free “Ballet Workshop for Advanced Students” from 10 am to 1 pm on Sunday 28 June at the Deanna School of Dancing, 30/63H, Longden Place, Colombo 07. 

Part of the French Spring Festival 2015 presented by the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Alliance Francaise de Kotte, this workshop is highly intensive and technique oriented. It is accordingly recommended for dancers of a minimum age of 15 years and with at least three years of regular classical ballet training.

The main objective of the workshop is to introduce participants to jumps, beats and turns commonly used in allegros and grand allegros. The core of the workshop will comprise a series of brisk across-the-floor combinations.

Seneka Abeyratne has a strong background in both classical ballet and western contemporary dance. He studied classical ballet at the Khulsum School of Dance for eight years and the Deanna School of Dancing for twelve years. He currently conducts ballet classes for children at the Haywood Creative School, Gampaha.

Abeyratne has presented several contemporary dance workshops at venues such as the Deanna School of Dancing, the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, the Fulbright Commission, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and the Nelung Arts Center. This will be his first classical ballet workshop.
