Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has informed the Cabinet of the amount the government has borrowed within the first four months of 2015
According to him, within the four months of this year ending 30 April the government has obtained Rs. 311.7 billion through Treasury Bonds, Rs. 83.6 billion through Treasury Bills, Rs. 113.5 billion through Sri Lanka Development Bonds, Rs. 09 billion through Central Bank advances and Rs. 8.2 billion through bank overdrafts.
Accordingly, the total local borrowings are Rs. 526.2 billion.
Meanwhile, during this period the amount obtained as foreign borrowings is approximately Rs. 158 billion.
Overall, this government has borrowed Rs. 684.2 billion within the first four months of 2015 while the approved limit for 2015 is Rs. 1,780 billion, says the government.
