Govt seeks assistance of an international consulting firm to attract FDI

March, 25, 2021

While foreign direct investment has been a decisive driving force in economic development, the drive of attracting foreign direct investment has weakened in the recent years over the failure to identify strategies that can directly target potential investors.

Sri Lanka and its competitive countries have previously taken steps to attract foreign direct investments.

However, the amount Sri Lanka acquired in 2019 was only US Dollars 1.5 Billion.

Therefore, it has been recognized the need to implement a well-designed combination and centralized marketing and coordination strategies to demonstrate the attractiveness of Sri Lanka as a most suitable host country for investment.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the Minister of Finance, in order to take the necessary steps to obtain the service of a leading international consulting firm which contributes to the promotion of foreign direct investments.
