High Five for Textured Jersey at National Business Excellence Awards

Textured Jersey Lanka PLC (TJ), the region’s largest textile manufacturer received high honours at the recently concluded National Business Excellence Awards 2015, the prestigious annual awards ceremony organised by the National Chamber of Commerce. The Company competed with most of the top Corporates to become the Overall Silver Winner for the Night.

The Five awards won by TJ included the No. 1 position in the Manufacturing – Apparel Textile and Leather Products Sector, where the Company won the top Gold award for the second consecutive year. Also among its rich haul were the Gold for being the Best Company in Capacity Building, a Silver award for Excellence in Performance Management, and the Silver Award in the Extra Large Company Category. The broad portfolio of awards went onto reinforce Textured Jersey’s standing as one of the nation’s Top Corporates and Business powerhouses of today.

The National Business Excellence Awards 2015 held at the Grand Ballroom of Hilton Colombo on 24th November, had H E James Dauris, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in attendance as Chief Guest, amongst a host of key Corporate personalities.

The judging criteria of the National Business Excellence Awards is based mainly on the formula used by the European Federation of Quality Management (EFQM), the standard for Europe, as well as some criterion taken from the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Awards of the USA. The National Chamber of Commerce has formulated their National Business Excellence Awards, by combining the standards of both Business Excellence models and coming up with one that is best suited for Sri Lanka’s corporate sector.

TJ recently brought major honour to Sri Lanka by winning the prestigious International Textile Firm of the Year title, at the World Textile Awards in UK. The Company made two major acquisitions in the recent months to cement itself at the region’s Largest Fabric Mill. The Company reported very strong Business results for its last quarter with 66% profit growth, adding further impetus to its ongoing momentum.

Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne, MD/ CEO of the Textured Jersey Group, elated with the outcomes commended his team on the wins. He said that Innovation, A Passion for Excellence, Customer Centricity, hard work, and a team effort had helped the Company achieve new milestones for itself and its stakeholders. “We are deeply honoured to receive these awards, which go to show that we are getting closer to our goal of building a firm of both national and global significance. We thank the NBA for the honours bestowed on TJ as it spurs us on to attain greater heights and we will continue to stay ahead of our game,” he said.

TJ who is top of the class for their fabric innovations and reputed to meet the highest international standards in product quality, has continually sustained an exceptionally high award winning standard, receiving a number of Sustainability as well as Quality and Performance awards both locally and internationally in the last few years.
The Company closed their second quarter recording a consolidated revenue of Rs. 4.0 billion, and an impressive Share price appreciation of 72.86% within the past twelve months. With ambitious aspirations backed by a dedicated and competent team, the company is set to steer their path towards a long-term growth phase and appears confident of staying the winning course.
