Japan to grant Sri Lanka Rs.1.6 bn to improve Public Security and combat terrorism

As an immediate response to the adverse effects caused to the public security of Sri Lanka by the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday, the Government of Japan has agreed to provide Japanese Yen 1 billion (approximately Rs.1.6 billion) under the Non Project Grant Aids Scheme for the provision of necessary equipment for strengthening of the capacity of Sri Lanka Police and Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited on counter-terrorism activities, through the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Finance to sign the Exchange of Notes with Government of Japan to obtain the said grant, was approved by the Cabinet.
