August, 3, 2015

The government is preparing to complete the 8.9 kilometre stretch of the outer circular highway connecting the Southern Expressway at Kottawa Junction on which work began during the former government and to open it to the public on 08 August.

Work is also to begin on the third phase of the 9.32 kilometre stretch of this highway from Kadawatha to Kerawalapitiya.

Quoting a spokesman from the main contractor of this third phase of the outer circular highway, Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd.(MCC), the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said recently that the allegations that the costs of the project had increased are completely false.

Once this stretch is completed anyone from the Southern Expressway could proceed directly up to Katunayake. The full distance of the outer circular highway is 29.1 kilometres.
