The 38th Annual General Meeting of Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) was held recently (23rd June 2016), which saw the reappointment of Maj. Gen. Upul Perera as the President of IMSL for 2016/17. The Council of Management of IMSL for this period was also unanimously appointed at the meeting which took place at Hotel Galadari Colombo.

IMSL is the national apex body in the field of professional management in Sri Lanka dedicated to promoting professional management in the country. This prestigious institution was founded on 31st of July 1986 and was incorporated by an Act of Parliament No. 67 on 17th December 1988. It is the successor to the Sri Lanka Management Association (SLMA), which was inaugurated on 5th of May 1978

IMSL has a long history of 38 years while 6 well known management professionals have graciously served the Institute in the capacity of President. IMSL President Maj. Gen. Upul Perera, spoke about the honour of being reappointed to this prestigious position. “I am humbly honoured to be reelected as the President of the national apex body of management in Sri Lanka for the third time. We have been very successful in the past year. I’m very much confident that the new Council of Management will serve the institute with highest commitment and passion and support our journey from Good to great. Our flagship event National Management Conference, Management and business policy development consultancy, IMSL Education and Training Programs, “The Way Forward” Public Seminar Series, strengthening of international relations with Asian Association of Management Organizations and other National Management Organizations in the region, membership development, membership benefits and welfare will be the key areas of focus in this year.

In this special occasion IMSL conferred an Honorary Fellowship to the veteran banker Mr. Aravinda Perera, Managing Director of Sampath Bank PLC. Presently IMSL is having 28 Honorary Fellows and 66 Fellows, which comprise the College of Fellows which shall function as the “Think-Tank” of the institute and as an advisory body to the council. The 1st issue of Volume 3 of the magazine of IMSL “Sri Lanka Management News” was officially released to the members at the annual general meeting.
