Creating new life through suite of safe, long-lasting and energy efficient batteries and bulbs for customers

Panasonic Consumer Marketing Asia Pacific (Panasonic), in partnership with Softlogic, sole distributor of Panasonic consumer electronics and home appliances in Sri Lanka, introduced its full range of innovative dry-cell batteries and light bulbs this week. Aiming to “Create New Life with Energy and Lighting” for the Sri Lankan community both young and old, Panasonic launched three types of dry-cell batteries – manganese battery, alkaline battery, and “eneloop” rechargeable battery – and two kinds of light bulbs – Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) bulb and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) bulb.

The Panasonic batteries are long-lasting with advanced design and materials selection, as well as safe with anti-leak protection and contain no hazardous substances such as mercury, lead and cadmium.

Mr. Masahiko Sora, General Manager, Battery Global Consumer Marketing and Sales, Panasonic Corporation, said, “Since 1923, Panasonic has sold more than 170 billion batteries worldwide, attaining number one market share in Japan, Thailand and Peru. Through the years, we have enhanced our battery technology to ensure quality, safety and reliability for our customers. With high economic growth potential, Sri Lanka is one of the company’s strategic markets. Panasonic aims to provide effective and eco lighting products and solutions for the community here. The “eneloop” rechargeable battery for example, can be reused up to 2,100 times and maintain 65% charging capacity after five years. We hope that such green technology and products can add value to customers’ lifestyles.”

Panasonic CFL bulb which is designed and engineered to last up to 10,000 hours or 7 years, can save about 80% of energy compared to conventional incandescent lamp. The Panasonic LED bulb is equipped with energy efficient technology, achieving 86% more energy savings. This makes it among the industry’s most energy efficient, lightest and most compact bulb. With two key technologies, optimal design and high heat dissipation, Panasonic LED bulb can last up to 25 years.

Mr. Naoki Doi, General Manager of Lighting, Panasonic Consumer Asia Pacific, commented, “As the level of environmental awareness within the Sri Lankan community steadily increases, we see more customers opting for eco-friendly products from which they can achieve long-term electricity and cost savings, as well as contribute to the country’s sustainability efforts. In view of this trend, Panasonic aims to provide safe, long-lasting and energy efficient light bulbs for its customers.”

At the launch, Panasonic and Softlogic also announced their business plan, targeting to expand distribution channels in Sri Lanka by bringing on board 25 regional distributors and covering 50,000 retailers island wide by March 2016. Mr. Amila Silva, Head of Battery and Lighting Division, Softlogic, added, “Here in Sri Lanka, Panasonic is viewed as a premium brand for consumer durables. It is endorsed by 13 well-established distributors and is well on its way to attain SLS Mark for its Compact Fluorescent Lamp bulbs. Softlogic is looking forward to continue its strong partnership with Panasonic towards achieving number one market share in the dry-cell battery and light bulb categories in Sri Lanka.”
