Securities & Exchange Commission top post filled

Vajira Wijegunawardene, Director - Capital Market Development of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) has been appointed its Director General.

It was earlier reported that SEC Deputy Director General Dhammika Perera’s name had been proposed to this vacancy since this top position had remained vacant for some time and the vacancy advertised recently.

Professor Harendra Disa Bandara functioned as the Actor Director General of the Securities & Exchange Commission for some time and after his resignation in 2013, Deputy Director General Dhammika Perera has been overseeing the Commissions functions.

Recently, the SEC Board of Directors decided to fill the Director General vacancy while following the due procedures.

Vajira Wijegunawardene who has now been appointed SEC Director General is a brother of former cricketer Kapila Wijegunawardene who was appointed Chairman of the Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket.
