Sri Lanka President issues Gazette banning Unmanned Aircrafts, Drones within SL airspace

Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena as the Defence Minister had issued a Gazette Extraordinary to prohibit the navigation of any unmanned aircraft (UAV) or any drone over Sri Lanka from 13th May 2019, government’s extraordinary gazette highlights. The Gazette has been issued under the provisions of Civil Aviation Act No. 14 of 2010. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in a press statement following the Easter Sunday attacks, announced that all drones and unmanned aircraft are banned within Sri Lankan airspace from April 25.

 

Accordingly, no person other than a member of Tri-Forces or a police officer is allowed to navigate drones or unmanned aircraft over Sri Lanka until further notice. The CAA said the decision was taken considering the prevailing security situation
