Sri Lanka’s inflation 5.4% in October

Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI), increased to 5.4% in October 2019 from 5.0% in September 2019, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.

The CCPI for all items for the month of October 2019 was 131.3 and it records an increase of 0.2 index points that is 0.19 percentage points compared to the month of September 2019 for which the index was 131.1. This represents an increase of expenditure value by Rs.153.4 in the “Market Basket”.

According to CCPI, YoY inflation of Food Group has increased from 3.0% in September 2019 to 6.8% in October 2019 while that of Non‐food Group has decreased from 5.7% in September 2019 to 4.8% in October 2019.

For the month of October 2019, on year‐to‐year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 1.99 %. The contribution of Non Food items was 3.39%.

The moving average inflation rate for the month of October 2019 was 4.0%. The corresponding rate for the month of September 2019 was 3.9%.
