Travels to the Central, North Central and Eastern Provinces

The Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre mobile unit - dedicated to all mothers and babies - has been travelling around Sri Lanka, delivering knowledge to mothers. Visiting 44 cities over the past couple of months, this one-of-a-kind project has reached thousands of mothers on its journey through Sri Lanka. The aim of the project is to disseminate baby care expertise to all Sri Lankan mothers, from multiple partners towards Pears’ inspiring vision that ‘Happy Babies Learn More.’

“There is a plethora of knowledge and resources out there that could benefit mothers. However this information is often restricted due to language barriers or is not accessible to the larger community. We are happy to have reached so many mothers in the few months that the mobile unit has been in operation,” said Vidhushi Rambukwella, Assistant Brand Manager for Pears at Unilever Sri Lanka. “We feel our goal to empower all Lankan mothers through the power of knowledge so that they can raise happy babies, has been effective and that we are seeing the results of this wonderful programme.”

In the initial phase, the custom-made Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre mobile unit travelled to the Central, North Central and Eastern Provinces, where mothers were educated on the emotional well-being of their children and how they can absorb more knowledge when they are emotionally and physically happy.

Speaking about her experience on the Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre which was in Naula - mother of 10 month old Nikula – H.M. Indra Kumari stated, “I am really glad to have been exposed to this programme. When we walk in to the learning centre we are given knowledge on new ways to keep our babies happy in a very conducive environment. At the end of the programme we also received a booklet with all the useful information to take home.  I believe the knowledge I got from attending the Pears Happy Baby Leaning Centre will be valuable to the well being of our family.”

Coming on board as a key partner, Hatton National Bank has partnered with the mobile unit, to set up HNB Singithi Kirikatiyo savings accounts and also provide financial insight and planning lessons for mothers.

Ranjani, who visited the Pears HBLC in Matale with her three children, stated that “programmes like this are helpful in sharing knowledge on children. As mothers, we are constantly trying to see what more we can do for our child. Even though I have experience bringing up my two older children, I still try to educate myself on ways to raise my third child better and to keep him happy.”

While the project is spearheaded by Pears, numerous partners both professional and commercial have come on board to create the Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre and share knowledge and know-how with Lankan mothers through diverse methods. Dedicated parenting websites such as Parenting.lk, Maathru.lk, Mumsibles.com and Mumzcare.com are onboard to provide revealing new content and knowledge to mothers online. This immensely valuable information is now available for mothers on the Pears Sri Lanka Facebook page.

Over the past couple of months, the Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre has reached many mothers all over the country with its various initiatives. The Pears Happy Baby Learning Centre mobile unit will continue to visit more cities in the future, bringing knowledge and expertise to mothers in order to help them keep their babies happy.
