December, 17, 2014

Premium boutique linen brand, Tropic Of Linen, was launched on 13th December 2014 at its strategic location at No. 1, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. Specialising in high quality linen wear, the exclusive boutique showcases an exciting blend of contemporary and classic clothing for men and women. Tropic Of Linen offers its customers ‘a taste of island living’ and a leisurely shopping experience in a spacious and tastefully styled showroom. The brand aims to create designs that flatter varying figures.

The company has been rapidly consolidating its reputation for the last seven years, retailing at Orchid House at the historic Galle Fort heritage site. Spurred by an overwhelming response to its brand, the launch of its exclusive Tropic Of Linen store marks the brand’s journey to the forefront of the island’s dynamic fashion retail industry. Tropic Of Linen is wholly-owned by Quantum International, an established apparel manufacturer counting over two decades experience producing premium quality clothing.

Mr. Shukran Salih, CEO of Quantum International, commented, “We are humbled to announce the launch of the first Tropic Of Linen boutique in Sri Lanka and are optimistic about the prospects for the brand in the future. Tropic Of Linen is positioned as an exclusive destination for luxurious linen wear in the country and we hope customers will respond well. We plan to augment our collection with distinctive linen kids clothing soon. We will be constantly innovating with eclectic styles and colours to fulfil the excitement associated with our brand. I would like to emphasise that the clothing is designed and manufactured in our own factory, enabling us to offer a high extent of quality assurance.”

The home-grown clothing label is available in a range of chic and versatile styles. The pieces are tailored to suit a variety of silhouettes, incorporating silk and cotton into its designs, alongside a unique collection of linen designs inspired by traditional Sri Lankan Batik. These hand-made products are created by individual workers in cottage industries in rural Sri Lanka, ensuring that no two pieces are alike. Tropic Of Linen is inspired by the island culture and seeks to promote linen as a fabric that is both crisp and fluid, offering scintillating versatility unlike any other fabric. The store aims to position itself as a retail fashion destination in the region.

Tropic Of Linen is spearheaded by a dynamic team of veterans in the garment trade. Shukran Salih, CEO of Quantum International, counts 20 years in apparel manufacturing and has previously held the position of Executive Director of Cadillac Garments Ltd. Cadillac Garments was established by M. D. M. Vazeer, a pioneer in the Sri Lankan apparel industry, and has manufactured clothing for high end retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Nike, GAP, Next, Tommy Hilfiger, Perry Ellis and Echo amongst others. The face behind Tropic Of Linen’s scintillating designs belongs to Minha Akram, who hails from a background in Fine Art and Design. Minha Akram’s forte is creating dynamic and breathtaking signature styles, be it as a fashion designer or in conceptualising outstanding designer events in her capacity as Director of Event Horizon.
