US$ 25mn loan from World Bank to improve public sector performance

The government is to implement a programme in cooperation with the World Bank and the European Union with the aim of increasing transparency and efficiency of the central government and public financial management.

Accordingly, the cabinet of ministers approved a proposal presented by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera to obtain US $25 million credit from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and for vesting power for the Ministry of Finance to enter into a financial agreement with the said bank.
