Will Kate and Prince William name royal baby Princess Charlotte or Alice?

May, 3, 2015

The world waits for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to name the new royal baby as family members visit Kensington Palace.

Kensington Palace said that the princess's name will NOT be announced today.

A spokesman said: "The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world. It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter.

"Their Royal Highnesses were today visited by The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Mr and Mrs Middleton, and Pippa Middleton."

"Additionally Prince Harry has said about his new niece: 'She is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to meet her.'"

Thoughts in the Cambridge household will soon be turning to the matter of choosing the new princess's godparents.

The royal family traditionally has babies christened soon after they are born. And the as-yet-unnamed princess is likely to be baptised in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, like her brother, before the royal family decamp to Balmoral for their summer holiday.

Prince George was given no fewer than seven godparents, so the Duke and Duchess will have plenty of thinking to do before their daughter’s next big appearance.

So, after a day of visits from family and friends, William and Kate are expected to leave Kensington Palace for their Norfolk bolt-hole Anmer Hall sometime over the next 24 hours.

Their country retreat is near the Queen's private Sandringham estate and they are likely to take the opportunity to show the monarch and Duke of Edinburgh their fifth great grandchild.

But will they wait until then before announcing the princess's name to the world?

Still thinking about having a wager on the name of the royal baby? Charlotte and Alice are bookies' favourites for royal baby name.

The bookmaker Ladbrokes has Alice and Charlotte on joint-favourites at 3/1, followed by Victoria at 5/1 and Elizabeth at 8/1.

Both William Hill and Coral still have Alice at 5/2, slightly ahead of Charlotte at 3/1. - (The Telegraph)
