Kishu Gomes new Chairman of SLTDA and SLTPB

Former long-standing Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC’s (LLUB) Kishu Gomes was appointed as the Chairman of both Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) on Wednesday (6th February 2019) by the Minister of Tourism John Amaratunga.

“We also plan to make tourism the number one foreign exchange earner for the country in a couple of years” Gomes had told reporters adding that after leaving a multinational company he wanted to do something for the country and selected this position after several ‘big wings’ in the leisure industry requested him to do so after heading the tourism awards committee.

According to reports Gomes had further told reporters that there would be two separate boards for SLTDA and SLTPB and he would head both of them. He had further said that his team’s aim is to attract 3 million tourists in 2019 and thus have set up a revenue target of US $ 7 billion for 2020. According to statistics in 2018 Sri Lanka witnessed 2.3 million arrivals and revenue of US$ 4.4 billion.
