December, 18, 2018

Sri Lanka’s twice Executive President turned, but shortest served Prime Minister in recent history of a decade after he crushed Terrorism in Sri Lanka in 2009, before resigning from his Premiership on Saturday (15th December 2018) said that the ‘Yahapalanaya’ or the so called ‘Good Governance’ modelled government that had lead under the Premiership, Economic Affairs Ministership of Ranil Wickremesinghe had borrowed over US $ 20.7 billion in foreign currency loans since assuming office in 2015.

“We have no idea as to how much more they will borrow in the coming months. The UNP brought our economy to the brink of collapse through such foreign currency borrowings. All that money was borrowed for consumption. We borrowed money to develop the country and that development is visible. But the UNP borrowed money only for consumption,” Rajapaksa said in his address on Saturday after ending his run as the Prime Minister appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena which lasted less than 50 days

“The change of government that the people expected has now had to be put off. But the people will definitely get the change they desire” Rajapaksa said adding that no one can prevent that.

He further said that the coming together of the Joint Opposition and the SLFP group that was in the government has now created a power block that commands around 54% of the vote base.

“We will bring the forces opposed to the country down to their knees by organizing the people” he concluded.
